What works: Getting active

There are many health benefits to keeping fit and it doesn't mean going to the gym, or being sporty.

What the evidence says:

Being active doesn’t mean going to the gym, playing sport or being sporty. Try something new or something you enjoyed as a child, move indoors or outdoors, take a friend or do it alone – but most of all do something you enjoy.

All activity counts and even small amounts of activity can:

  • increase mental alertness
  • increase energy levels
  • elevate your mood

The more you do the better you will feel!  Indeed, being active more regularly can:

  • improve your self esteem
  • reduce stress levels
  • lower anxiety
